PLL Episode 5x11 - No One Here Can Love or UnderstAnd Me
Clues in this Episode that Aria is A
The episode opens with the girls on their way to the police station to come clean to Lt. Tanner about everything. This was Spencer's idea and with Alison behaving like a loose canon, the other girls were persuaded. The only one hesitant about going to the police is Aria. She does after all have a murder to explain away, and probably alot of other things too if the police have any idea of half of the stuff she has been up to over the years....
Anyway, the girls are in front of a store across the street from the police station, and just as they turn to start walking toward the station, Aria hesitates and all of the screens in the store window come on. On the screens is a photo of Alison in her candy striper uniform with the words "we're all in this together"
Receiving this clue changes the girls minds about going to the police after all. Aria seems relieved.
Melissa is getting ready to move to London. She is with Spencer at the Brew and tells her that maybe it's safer if both Spencer and Melissa both move to London. As she says this, she looks over at Aria, Hanna and Emily. It is clear from this exchange that Melissa does not trust at least one of Spencer's friends.
Melissa leaves Spencer a message before she escapes to England. It is a video taped message for Spencer's eyes only. In it, Melissa comes clean to Spencer about alot of things and explains her past shady behavior. Among her confessions:
Melissa was the one that found Bethany knocked out and she was the one that buried her because she thought Spencer has hit her and was trying to cover it up and protect Spencer. Melissa thought it was Ali, she did not know about Bethany at the time.
Melissa also swears to Spence that everything she has ever done was to protect Spencer. She has been protecting her since it started, and even before it all started.
We have suggested that Alison was the female voice on the Halloween train that tried to push Aria off the train while she was trapped in the box with the dead Garrett. However, many people think that it was actually Melissa that was trying to push Aria off the train.
If it was Melissa that was the voice of the female pushing Aria off the train, and everything she ever did was to protect Spencer, then Melissa must think that Aria is dangerous to Spencer and guilty of being A.
FORESHADOWING OF MONA;S DEATH
The most interesting scene of this episode is the movie theater scene when Aria shows up to Family Night and finds that instead of her mom, Mona is joining them. We like to refer to this scene as the Foreshadowing of Mona's Death. Aria is obviously angry that Mona is there. During the part of the movie, just as the woman on the screen is being killed, Aria leans over and whispers in Mona's ear. We don't hear what Aria says but it upsets Mona enough that she leaves the theater and doesn't return for a while. Aria finally goes to the bathroom to find her.
In the bathroom Mona says "You know right wher to put the knife, and you're not afraid to twist it. Alison underestimated you." Aria tries to make amends with Mona then and Mona admits to her that she knows about New York and can speculate about Shana too. Aria seems shaken when Mona says this, but tries to befriend her anyway. In the next episode, we find that the very next day the girls show up to Mona's house and befriend her by asking for her help in investigating Alison. Mona seems flattered but wary.
This entire sequence does not paint Aria in a flattering or innocent light and is a direct clue that she is A. Some other subtle clues in this episode can be found in Aria's wardrobe. In the outfit to the right we see Aria wearing a skirt with lightning bolts all over it. This symbol has previously been used as a clue by the show's creator Marlene King. Aris is also wearing a tiger shirt. Earlier in the season, Aria said "A is hunting Ali like a warrior cat". At the time she said that she was wearing a tiger shirt. Since then, Aria has worn some sort of tiger or lion clothing in every episode. She is continuing the trend here.
Meanwhile, the police are continuing to investigate all of the crazy, criminal happenings in the town of Rosewood. The girls are involved in many scenarios the police are investigating such as Alison's disappearance and alleged kidnapping, the murder of Bethany Young, and the murder of Shana. And of all the people involved, including all of the girls, whose house does Lt. Tanner show up at? You guessed it, the Montgomery house. Looks like the police might know more about what Aria has been up to behind that scenes than we think. Or maybe they know even more than we the viewers do...
Tanner is seen telling Byron "If you want to know if the police are interested in Aria? We ARE." Aria is seen looking on spying on the entire scene.
